Who are we and our journey so far?
Genesis 8:4 – “and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.”
Disciples Community started as an ark with a very few number of people in it. God put a vision in the hearts of Pastor Benson Abraham & family, Pastor Maruti Ekunde and Family and Bro Jaison Abraham & Family and they came together in the month of June, 2016 and shared the God given vision in their lives with each other. And under God’s guidance and word they decided to put forward a step of faith obeying the great commission from God to go and make disciples through the teaching of His word. And the ark in which they traveled rested in the mount of Ararat (Bro Vasu Aachmetti’s house in Thergaon, Pune) where the very first Sunday service was conducted on July 17, 2016 (Seventeenth day of the seventh month) Hallelujah!
Genesis 8:5 – “And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.”
The ark of Disciples community remained at the house of Bro Vasu (Mount Ararat) until the tenth month and on Oct 1 (the first day of the tenth month) the tops of the mountain were seen at Hinjawadi, Pune as we started our very first Saturday evening service on Oct 1, 2016 (Saturday) followed by Sunday service on Oct 2, 2016 under the banner of Disciples Community and so on till this Sunday. The waters of judgment and doubt decreasing with God enabling the Disciples Community to expand their horizon to Hinjawadi. Hallelujah!
Genesis 8:6 – “So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made.”
At the end of the forty days from Oct 1 (1st day of the 10th month) which is November 10, God started to move the power of His spirit in the midst of Disciples Community and opened the window of the ark through which the dove (symbolic to Holy Spirit) was sent out. Dove returned. After 7 days (on Nov 17, 2016), again the dove (symbolic to Holy Spirit) was sent out. Dove returned with olive leaf showing peace among the community of disciples. After 7 days (on Nov 24, 2016), again the dove (symbolic to Holy Spirit) was sent out. This time it did not return but it did His work. Disciples Community gets registered as a Charitable Trust on Nov 24, 2016. Hallelujah. Greater things are yet to come through the power of His spirit.
Our Purpose and What’s important to us
Disciples Community was birthed with the sole purpose of making disciples who would become more like Jesus Christ by walking in and obeying His teachings. The purpose of Disciples Community is to teach God’s unconditional love and grace to the people so that they would be able to receive it through faith and take the God given authority and power and go out and make more disciples.
The questions that stare at our face today are – “Are we as a Universal body of Christ fulfilling the discipleship commission?”, “Are we making disciples who in turn can make disciples?”, “Are we mentoring, parenting, moulding and partnering with New disciples?”, “Are we passing the truth and the teachings of Jesus to our next generation so that they could be disciples of Jesus?” and “Are we only making converts termed as Believers who are lukewarm all the time or are we going an extra mile in making true disciples?”. The Church needs to rise up on its feet and take on these questions head on because if the church gets it right in answering these questions, the strongholds of the devil are going to be shaken. Because it is the Truth that will defeat the lie of the devil.
But for the Gospel Truth to take control, it needs to be taught, it needs to be learnt, it needs to be known from heart, it needs to be passed on to the young reliable men who will carry the truth to the next generation. It is time that the Church starts viewing the Great Commission from the lens of True discipleship.
Discipleship is not just about having religious knowledge but it is to be more like Jesus by knowing Him better through His Word and living out life based on His Word. Discipleship cannot be programmed but it needs to be pursued by taking the new disciples along your way of life and ministering to them on a daily basis through real life needs. Discipleship is not just about preaching but it is more about practicing what we preach on a daily basis which will get the lives of the people transformed. Discipleship is not something that can be pursued without effort by just attending Church weekly meetings and hoping that we will be like Jesus, but it requires effort and we need to work out our own salvation (Philippians 2:12). Discipleship is not just a strategy but it is all about executing the strategy and communicating it well. Discipleship is about the Great Commission and Great Commission is all about Discipleship. But before we start dreaming about getting it done, we need to GO.
And Disciples Community wants to GO and fulfill the discipleship commission for Jesus Christ by planting Churches where disciples can gather, worship, fellowship and learn from His word and build up themselves in faith.
